St. Paul's School Hawley Observatory

Facilities

Alumni Telescope

The flagship 0.7-meter altitude-azimuth mounted reflecting telescope of St. Paul's School. The telescope is equipped for either eyepiece viewing or CCD imaging. The final assembly of the telescope took place inside the dome using a crane.

Lowell Observatory

The Lowell Observatory houses an FC125 refracting telescope on a Takahashi equatorial mount. The telescope is equipped for viewing through an eyepiece as well as SLR-camera imaging.

Solar Observatory

This bare cement pier is configured to support a heliostat for solar observing. The sunlight would be sent underground down a wide tube. The tube runs out of the side of the hill before entering into Building One where an instrument bench may be used to analyze the light.

Building 1

Two shops, the Alumni Telescope control room, and instruments are housed here among the domes.

Dome 2

The 8-inch Takahashi Newtonian telescope in Dome 2 is currently configured for advanced research with the CCD camera. The comparable reflector in Dome 3 is shown at right with a solar filter and dSLR camera.

Dome 3

The dual mount supports a Takahashi reflecting telescope and a Questar Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, suitable for simultaneous white-light imagery and grating spectroscopy or polarimetry.

The Chart House

The Chart House is a library, classroom, and image-processing laboratory complete with a kitchen and restroom.
