The Charthouse

The Charthouse serves as the heart of the SPS Astronomy center. It houses two darkrooms and a chartroom that contains an astronomical reference and chart library, plus five computer workstations for processing CCD images and for charting the night's series of observations. There is also a bathroom and a food eating center. The darkrooms are no longer in use; when the building is remodeled, they will be removed to make way for a larger computer and chartroom area.

If you examine the above photo carefully, you can see at the top of the path the tail end of Carmen, the old, furry observatory dog, who for sixteen years came out to the Astronomy Center as a faithful companion to the astronomy students.
