The "Dump" Observatory

A few faithful and intrepid St. Paul's Astronomy students sit "inside" the Dump Observatory after its recent construction in November of 1980 (foreground, James Britton '81; background, David Wheeler '81). The school's telescopes had to be housed elsewhere due to the Dump Observatory's inadequate protection from the New Hampshire cold winters and wet springs. Now, however, modern domes and weather resistant equipment make things a bit easier. In the picture above, the boxes hold parts of the former dump observatory for historical purposes.
