Lowell Observatory

The Lowell Swift Reeve observatory is used primarily for computer
imaging of stellar objects using a CCD camera. This charge coupled
device allows extremely sensitive and precise photographs of deep
sky objects. Displaying the pictures directly as computer images,
CCD pictures can easily be altered and analyzed. The telescope sits
upon a computer controlled Takahashi equitorial mount which is motor
driven in order to compensate for the rotation of the earth. This
observatory is also equipped with an eyepiece projection system
for taking closeup pictures of stellar objects.
